Training offered by the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR) is dynamic, changing to meet the needs of the Florida's citizens and visitors. Since 1994 BAR, in conjunction with the Florida Park Service, has provided the Archaeological Resource Management (ARM) training course for state land managers. As a result, BAR has trained more than 800 resource managers in the Florida Park Service, Division of Forestry, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and other public and private resource managing organizations. Currently BAR is expanding its archaeological resource management training to include programs for private landowners and those involved in construction. BAR also is developing a training program for law enforcement personnel to assist in dealing with archaeological resource crimes. In the past BAR has offered courses tailored to the needs of organizations such as the Southwest Florida Water Management District permit administrators and Florida Department of Environmental Protection wetland delineators. If you have a special need for a training class please contact the training coordinator, Kevin Porter, for more information on BAR training opportunities.
