The Miami Circle has been identified as the starting point for a Miami River Greenway that will link urban parks and trails along the river throughout Miami. A joint effort of the Miami River Commission and the Trust for Public Land, current plans for the greenway culminated in the Miami River Greenway Action Plan.

The greenway project has sought partners among local nonprofit organizations, government agencies, businesses and neighborhood groups. The Miami River Greenway Action Plan addresses restoration of the river's natural and cultural heritage as well as the social and economic needs of the people who live and work in the area.

Major components of the greenway include landscaped pathways, street improvements, lighting, seating, signage, historic markers and other amenities throughout the entire river corridor.
