Picture of the Solid Gold Spanish Mancerina

Solid Gold Spanish Mancerina

This artifact is from the Corrigan's Wreck, part of the Spanish Plate Fleet that was struck by a hurricane along Florida's East Coast in 1715. Much of the partaking of the tea was, and continues to be, an important social event in England. So was the serving of cocoa in 18th century Spain. This highly ornate solid gold mancerina would have served as a tray to hold a single cup of cocoa. It is currently on exhibit at the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee.
