The Beauty of Glass
Glass has an intrinsic beauty that has appealed to people past and present.
Since most glass beads were inexpensive and light weight, it was not uncommon for Europeans to carry or import
thousands of them to trade with Native Americans. As a result, glass beads are among the most common artifacts
found on historic sites throughout Florida.
Quartz crystal beads and pendants were also prized by Native Americans. Clear quartz crystals were coveted by
Indians in prehistoric times and were believed to have special powers.
