FESTIVAL OUTREACH
In 2005, the Florida Folklife Program is offering several Festival Outreach presentations in connection with its National Endowment for the Arts-funded project, New Communities in Central Florida: Latin American and Southeast Asian.
- February 19: In conjunction with the Downtown Media Arts Center’s OLAFEST: Orlando
Latin American Film & Heritage Festival, the Florida Folklife Program has programmed
a street festival with Latin American music, dance, and folk arts. Tents will house
artists such as Linda Gallegos/Mexican piñatas and paper flowers, Blanca Moreno/Mexican
cut-paper decorations and altars, David Penaflor/Mexican instrument making,
Ildalia Lanzo/Puerto Rican festival masks & costumes, Aida Etchegoyen and the
Puerto Rican Lace Makers, Antonio Rodriguez/Puerto Rican santos, Frank Capella—Puerto Rican
miniature houses and bamboo cups; The music and dance performance schedule is:

- March 6: In conjunction with the Mennello Museum of American Folk Arts’ Folk Arts Festival in Orlando, the Florida Folklife Program will present southeast Asian and Latin American artists.
- May 6: In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the Florida Folklife Program and the City of Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center will present a concert of Mexican music.
- May 27-29: The Florida Folklife Program will present Latin American and southeast Asian arts at the Folklife Area at the Florida Folk Festival, Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center, White Springs.
